Located on the northern side of Phu Quy Island, Bai Phu is the busiest and most vibrant fishing port during the southwest wind season. Before sunrise, the area is already alive with the sound of waves, boat engines, and lively bargaining, marking the start of another energetic day on the island.
Because Bai Phu is a shallow beach, large fishing boats cannot dock directly. Instead, fishermen must use small shuttle boats to transport both their catch and crew to shore. From around 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM, dozens of these small boats go back and forth, bringing in baskets of freshly caught fish, squid, shrimp, crab, and other seafood harvested during the night.

At the same time, seafood traders from the three communes of Tam Thanh, Long Hai, and Ngu Phung gather here to purchase the freshest catch and distribute it to markets and local eateries. The lively calls of buyers and sellers echoing through the salty sea breeze create a vibrant, unmistakable atmosphere of a traditional Phu Quy fishing village.
According to local fishermen, most offshore trips begin around 3:00 PM. They fish through the night using light lures around the island and return to Bai Phu between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM to sell their catch. After unloading, they head home to rest, preparing for the next journey — a simple yet enduring rhythm of life on this island of hardworking seafarers.
Today, beyond being the island’s busiest fish landing site, Bai Phu is also the departure point for many marine tours. Visitors can hire a canoe here to reach Hon Tranh, one of Phu Quy’s most beautiful islands, known for its clear water and vibrant coral reefs. Round-trip tickets range from 200,000 to 250,000 VND per guest.
Amid the calm pace of Phu Quy Island, Bai Phu is not just a place of livelihood for fishermen — it is a symbol of abundance and vitality, offering visitors a truly authentic glimpse into the daily life of a coastal community.
