The Con Dao Passenger Port is located along Tôn Đức Thắng Street, facing the sea in the central area of Côn Đảo. This prime location allows high-speed ferries to arrive and depart quickly and conveniently, significantly shortening travel time for visitors when coming to or leaving the island.
The first dedicated passenger port of Con Đảo
This is the first specialized seaport for passenger vessels in the district. Situated entirely within Vịnh Côn Sơn, a naturally sheltered and safe bay, the port benefits from favorable conditions that allow vessels to berth steadily even during rough sea conditions—enhancing safety and reliability for sea travel to Con Đảo.
Scale & technical infrastructure
With a total investment of over VND 158.4 billion, the Con Đảo Passenger Port features modern and well-synchronized infrastructure:
- Approach bridge: 370 m long, 7 m wide, directly connecting the passenger terminal to the pier
- Main pier: 50 m long, 12 m wide, allowing berthing on both sides and accommodating passenger vessels of up to 398 DWT
- Eight docking points along both sides of the approach bridge (each widened by 1.25 m) for canoes and yachts with engine power up to 150 HP
- Passenger terminal with a construction area of 642 m² (usable area approx. 535 m²), serving as the architectural highlight of the complex
- Port operations building of 540 m², plus parking areas and internal roads totaling 3,428 m², along with other auxiliary facilities
Coastal public space
Overall, the port creates a visually appealing coastal landscape for the central beach area while adding valuable public space for both residents and visitors—functional yet harmonious with the natural scenery of the bay.
Operation & significance
The Con Đảo Passenger Port was officially approved for operation by the Vietnam Maritime Administration in early March 2023. Its operation:
- Effectively alleviates congestion at Bến Đầm Port
- Shortens the distance to the town center by more than 10 km compared to traveling via Bến Đầm
- Saves visitors an average of around VND 50,000 per trip in transportation costs
- Enhances the overall experience of traveling to Con Đảo by sea
Beyond its infrastructure role, the project contributes to the development of tourism, maritime services, and passenger transport, creating momentum for socio-economic growth, strengthening national defense and security, and opening up new development opportunities for Con Đảo in the next phase.
