Hai Lam Pagoda on Ly Son Island

Hai Lam Pagoda is one of the historic temples of the Ly Son Special Administrative Zone. It was founded in 1928 by the late Most Venerable Thich Khanh Tin, originally located in Trung Hoa Hamlet, Binh Yen Commune, Binh Son District. After administrative changes, the area now belongs to Dong Hamlet, An Hai Commune, Ly Son Island.

In 1978, during a period of national tension and threats from foreign forces, the local authorities of Binh Yen called on the Hai Lam Pagoda community to support the army. With the spirit of protecting the nation and ensuring peace for the people, the pagoda’s disciples agreed to lend all temple land for military deployment and national defense.

Today, with the country at peace and the island secure, the pagoda community wished to rebuild Hai Lam Pagoda. With the support of the Buddhist Sangha of the province and local authorities, the pagoda was granted a new plot of land of 10,000 m², located south of the Than Nong Shrine in Dong Hamlet, An Hai Commune. This new location is where Hai Lam Pagoda is being restored and continued as a place of worship and spiritual practice.

Hai Lam Pagoda stands as a symbol of faith, patriotism, and the deep bond between the Buddhist community and the people of Ly Son Island.
