Hon Dua (Coconut Island)

Hon Dua is the closest island to An Thoi Port among the 14 islands of the An Thoi archipelago, located just about 1.5 km from the mainland in a straight line. To reach the island, visitors can take a boat for about 10 minutes or a canoe for only around 5 minutes.

Despite its name, Hon Dua (“Coconut Island”), you won’t find any coconut trees here. The name likely comes from the island’s distinctive shape when viewed from afar. Few people know that the An Thoi area is home to many islands that still retain their untouched beauty, and Hon Dua is one of the closest to Phu Quoc, with very little impact from tourism development.

The island is home to approximately 3,000 residents, most of whom rely on traditional fishing and aquaculture for their livelihood. The marine ecosystem surrounding Hon Dua is incredibly vibrant, featuring coral reefs of various colors and shapes — a perfect spot for ocean lovers and snorkeling enthusiasts.

Visitors can also combine their trip with a stop at the nearby wildlife conservation area, home to many rare and valuable species.

🏖 Scenery of Hon Dua

  • The island is surrounded by natural rocky shores, with sandy beaches located mainly on the eastern side.

  • At the center of the island stands Tower No. 3 of the Hon Thom Cable Car — the world’s longest three-rope sea-crossing cable car, stretching 7,899.9 meters with 69 cabins.

  • At the lowest sagging point of the cable line, between Tower No. 2 (Mui Hanh) and Hon Dua, the distance from the sea surface to the bottom of the cabin is about 50 meters.

Hon Dua is an ideal destination for those who love unspoiled nature, want to experience the life of local fishermen, and enjoy the rustic beauty of Phu Quoc’s sea and sky.
