Located along the coastline of An Vinh Commune on the western side of the Ly Son Special Administrative Zone, the Mother Goddess Temple of the Ly Son Cao Dai parish stands as one of the island’s most distinctive spiritual structures. This sacred site beautifully blends traditional Cao Dai architectural elements with the dramatic natural scenery of the volcanic island.
Constructed between 2009 and 2013, the temple follows the architectural style of a Cao Dai Holy See, harmonizing classical motifs with a touch of modern design. The three-tiered structure leans against the mountain ridge and faces the open sea, creating an imposing yet graceful silhouette against the vast sky.
Visitors entering through the three-tiered Tam Quan Gate are greeted by vibrant decorations and spacious passageways. Beyond the gate lies a wide courtyard paved with patterned tiles, highlighted by a ceremonial flagpole and colorful religious banners dancing in the sea breeze.
One of the temple’s most striking features is the four-story bell tower, rising prominently against the blue horizon. A system of stairways leads visitors up the tower, offering panoramic views of Ly Son—its emerald sea, volcanic peaks, and fields of garlic and shallots stretching across the island.
Inside the sanctuary, the main hall is arranged with solemn reverence according to Cao Dai ritual traditions. At its center stands the altar of the Mother Goddess (Phật Mẫu), the divine Mother of Creation in Cao Dai belief. This is where devotees hold their key religious ceremonies and spiritual observances.
From afar, the Mother Goddess Temple stands out beautifully with the Giếng Tiền volcanic mountain as its natural backdrop. The structure not only reflects the faith and cultural identity of the islanders but also adds a captivating architectural highlight to Ly Son’s coastal landscape.
Since its inauguration, the Ly Son Mother Goddess Temple has become an appealing cultural and spiritual destination—an enriching stop for travelers seeking to explore the religious life and unique heritage of this frontier island.
