Nguyen Trung Truc Temple in Phu Quoc is one of the island’s most significant spiritual and cultural landmarks, consisting of a main sanctuary and two auxiliary worship halls, one of which was later restored following the architectural style of the original shrine. The temple grounds also feature two waiting pavilions and a harmoniously arranged landscape system, creating a serene and dignified space that reflects the heroic spirit of the man it honors.

The temple was first built in 1993 through the collective contributions of the people of Phu Quoc as an expression of deep respect for Nguyen Trung Truc, the steadfast leader of the anti-French resistance in the late 19th century. Despite various restorations over the years, the temple has retained its simplicity and rustic charm—qualities that echo the resilience, loyalty, and unwavering patriotism of the national hero himself.
For the people of Phu Quoc, the temple is a sacred place where they come to pray for peace, good fortune, and protection. Every year, on the anniversary of his death, the community gathers at the temple to hold a solemn memorial ceremony, honoring Nguyen Trung Truc and the brave fighters who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. Visitors arriving at the temple in Ganh Dau will not only experience its tranquil and reverent atmosphere but also gain a deeper understanding of Nguyen Trung Truc’s remarkable life and legacy—remembered especially through his immortal declaration: “When the Westerners can uproot all the grass in Vietnam, then they will be able to wipe out the Vietnamese people.”
In 2011, the site was officially recognized as a Provincial Historical and Cultural Relic, further affirming its importance as a cultural, spiritual, and educational destination for both locals and travelers. Thanks to the ongoing support of the community and dedicated site caretakers, the temple continues to be well preserved, with annual festivals and memorial events held to honor its heritage.
