Located in the southern part of Phu Quy Island, Ong Dun Hill rises about 46–48 meters above sea level. It is not only a place of natural beauty but also a site deeply tied to a meaningful local legend.
According to folklore, long ago a couple — Ong Dun and Ba Dang — traveled from afar to reclaim the land and begin their livelihood on the island. They lived kindly and worked hard, yet had no children or relatives nearby. One day, as thunder roared and the sea surged violently, the husband chose to pass away on the mountain, while the wife transformed herself toward the sea.
Since then, islanders have honored their virtues by naming the hill Ong Dun, and the rocky headland at the shoreline Ba Dang — a gesture of gratitude and a way to preserve the island’s ancestral tale.
Today, reaching the summit of Ong Dun Hill rewards visitors with sweeping views of Trieu Duong Bay — the most beautiful beach on Phu Quy Island, known for its silky white sand, crystal-clear waters, and untouched tranquility. It is a place where mythical history and present-day beauty blend seamlessly within the serene island landscape.
