Phap Quang Pagoda Phu Quoc – A Tranquil Buddhist Sanctuary Known as the “Wealthy Pagoda”

Phap Quang Pagoda is one of the most notable spiritual sites on Phu Quoc Island, located on Tran Hung Dao Street in Duong To, about 6 km from Duong Dong Town. Despite being close to bustling tourist areas, the pagoda offers a peaceful, refreshing atmosphere, making it an ideal stop for those seeking serenity and spiritual reflection.

History

The pagoda was built in 1986 and has undergone several renovations, with the most significant restoration completed in 1992. Today, Phap Quang Pagoda stands out with its spacious grounds and majestic architecture. Its impressive appearance has earned it the affectionate nickname “Wealthy Pagoda” among locals.

Architectural Highlights

One of the pagoda’s most striking features is the corridor of Arhat statues, meticulously carved and placed along the walkway leading to the main hall. Each statue displays a different expression, creating a unique and solemn Buddhist atmosphere.

Inside the main hall, visitors will find sacred Buddha statues arranged with harmony and reverence. Surrounding them are intricately carved reliefs that reflect deep Buddhist philosophy and Eastern artistic craftsmanship. Two dragon statues seated on both sides of the altar further enhance the sense of grandeur and spiritual purity.

Altogether, these elements create a remarkable architectural identity that sets Phap Quang Pagoda apart from other temples on the island.

A Peaceful Retreat in the Heart of Phu Quoc

Although located near lively tourist zones, the pagoda maintains a serene and airy setting. The cool sea breeze, lush greenery, and quiet ambience make it a perfect place for travelers to rest, escape the heat, and reconnect with inner calm.

Besides worship activities, visitors often come here simply to enjoy the refreshing atmosphere and take a break from the crowded beaches and entertainment areas.

A Popular Pilgrimage Destination

With its sacred ambience and distinctive architecture, Phap Quang Pagoda has become a favored pilgrimage site for both locals and travelers. It is not only a place for worship and prayer but also a meaningful stop to learn more about Buddhist culture on the Pearl Island.
