Phu Quoc Island

Phu Quoc Island is one of the three newly established special administrative zones of An Giang Province, alongside Tho Chau and Kien Hai. The Phu Quoc Special Zone covers more than 589 km², encompassing the entire natural area and population of the former Phu Quoc City, including Duong Dong Ward, An Thoi Ward, and the six communes of Duong To, Ham Ninh, Cua Duong, Bai Thom, Ganh Dau, and Cua Can.

Beginning July 1, Phu Quoc officially became a special administrative zone under An Giang Province following the merger of the former Kiên Giang and An Giang localities. This administrative transition marks a major turning point in the development of Vietnam’s “Pearl Island,” opening new opportunities for growth, investment, and regional connectivity.

As one of the country’s most dynamic tourism destinations, the establishment of the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Zone is expected to bring enhanced infrastructure, improved management mechanisms, and greater potential for sustainable development—further elevating Phu Quoc’s position on the tourism and economic map of Vietnam.
