Phu Quy Island, now designated as a Special Administrative Zone of Lam Dong Province, was officially established on July 1, 2025, following the merger of three former communes—Long Hai, Ngu Phung, and Tam Thanh—which previously belonged to Phu Quy Island District of Binh Thuan Province.
The newly formed special zone spans 18.02 km² and has a population of 32,268 residents.
As an emerging destination in Vietnam’s tourism landscape, the Phu Quy Special Administrative Zone marks a new chapter in the island’s development, offering expanded opportunities for economic growth, improved infrastructure, and sustainable tourism initiatives.
