Construction began in 1994, and the lighthouse officially entered operation on 18 February 1994. It was upgraded and completed on 19 August 1997. Ever since, the lighthouse has stood watch over the Phu Quy waters, guiding fishermen and vessels through the challenging offshore routes and ensuring maritime safety year-round.

The lighthouse reaches a total height of 126 meters above chart datum, with the tower itself measuring 20 meters from base to focal plane. The square grey tower rises prominently against the deep blue sky and surrounding greenery, while the service building below is painted a warm amber yellow, giving the complex a solid and dignified appearance.
The light source emits a double-flash pattern every 15 seconds, illuminating a full 360°, with a daytime range of 27 nautical miles and a nighttime range of 20 nautical miles. Powered by solar energy, the system automatically switches on and off depending on weather conditions, operating primarily from 17:45 to 05:45 to ensure safe passage across the Phan Thiet – Binh Thuan waters.
