Sustainable Forest Management of Côn Đảo National Park to Boost Tourism Development

The People’s Committee of Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province has issued Decision No. 1668/QĐ-UBND approving the Sustainable Forest Management Plan for Côn Đảo National Park (Côn Đảo NP) through 2030.

According to the plan, in order to develop ecotourism based on nature conservation and biodiversity across forest ecosystems, wetlands, and marine areas, the province will lease 888.23 hectares of forest land — including 720.52 ha in the Service–Administration Zone and 167.70 ha in the Ecological Restoration Zone.
This policy aims to develop a chain of unique ecotourism products with national and international standards in Côn Đảo.

For sustainable forest management in Côn Đảo National Park, the province identifies ecotourism development as an important activity for increasing economic revenue. However, it emphasizes that the “pristine nature” of local ecosystems, landscapes, and natural tourism resources must be preserved at all costs, and cannot be traded for economic benefits. This principle serves as the basis for selecting investors whose tourism models demonstrate responsibility toward nature.

As planned, Côn Đảo National Park will develop 17 ecotourism routes offering a wide range of activities.

  • Inland areas (not adjacent to the sea): forest-canopy ecotourism, sports tourism, nature exploration, and wildlife observation.
  • Island and coastal areas: resort tourism, kayaking, coral viewing, marine conservation experiences, and sea turtle rescue & release activities.
