The National Flagpole on Phú Quý Island – Every Check-in Brings a Greater Sense of Pride

The National Flagpole on Phú Quý Island is located in Triều Dương Hamlet, Tam Thanh (Phú Quý Special Zone). Standing 22.6 meters tall, the structure is made of reinforced concrete and faces the open sea.

Construction began on June 17, 2015, on an area of nearly 200 m² at the eastern tip of Chuối Hill, overlooking Gành Hang Beach (Triều Dương Hamlet, Tam Thanh Commune). The complex comprises four main components: the flag platform, the flagpole base, the steps, and the surrounding grounds.

The flagpole rises 22.6 meters and supports a 4 × 6 meter national flag. Its base has four equal faces and stands 5.2 meters high, built of reinforced concrete to ensure stability. The exterior of the base is clad in white-gray granite, decorated with two national symbols—the Red Flag with a Yellow Star, the National Emblem, the country name, and the geographic coordinates of the flagpole.

The steps and surrounding grounds form a square plaza oriented toward the East Sea. The foundation covers about 10.24 m², anchored deep into the rocky hillside using robust structural techniques similar to those employed in lighthouse construction. The national flag itself measures 4 × 6 meters and is sewn from high-durability fabric designed to withstand strong sea winds. At the time of construction, the total investment exceeded VND 1.26 billion.

This project holds profound sacred significance for the nation, contributing meaningfully to education and awareness—fostering patriotism, national pride, and a strong sense of responsibility for safeguarding maritime sovereignty, especially among the island’s youth and residents.

Beyond symbolizing Vietnam’s sovereignty on Phú Quý Island, the flagpole serves as a powerful educational landmark—helping younger generations cultivate ideals, confidence, and commitment to protecting the nation’s sacred seas and islands. It is also set to become an attractive sightseeing and tourism destination for visitors from near and far.

Phú Quý is the only special zone of Lâm Đồng, located 56 nautical miles east–southeast of Phan Thiết. The island covers a total area of 17.82 km² and is home to approximately 30,000 residents who live and work there.
