Located in Phu An Hamlet, Ngu Phung Commune of the Phu Quy Special Zone, the scenic complex of Mount Cam, Phu Quy Lighthouse, and Linh Buu Pagoda sits about 1.5 km northeast of Ngu Phung Center, 3 km from the Phu Quy Special Zone People’s Committee, and roughly 6 km north of Phu Quy Port. From the port, visitors can easily reach the site by following the island’s main northbound road.
A Geological Treasure Formed Over Millions of Years
The geological formation of Phu Quy Island—dating back more than 3 million years—has gifted the island three distinct and magnificent mountains:
- Mount Cao Cat (85 m)
- Mount Cam (108 m, the highest point)
- Mount Ong Dun (44.9 m)
Among these, Mount Cam, located in the island’s northwest, is the tallest and has long served as a natural landmark for maritime navigation. In 1996, the Vietnamese government built the Phu Quy Lighthouse atop Mount Cam to guide domestic and international vessels navigating the surrounding waters.
Phu Quy Lighthouse – The “International Eye of the Sea”
Phu Quy Lighthouse stands 18 meters high, with a black stone square tower and a two-story white operations house below.
- Light range: 22 nautical miles
- Geographical visibility: 27 nautical miles by day, 22 by night
- Coordinates: 10°32’21.5”N – 108°55’59.5”E
- Light characteristics: white light, group flashing (2), 15-second cycle
- Main lamp: VMSRB 400
- Auxiliary lamp: TRB 200
The lighthouse marks both the location of Phu Quy Island and the approach route for ships navigating the offshore waters of Binh Thuan Province. Thanks to its strategic position near major international shipping lanes, Phu Quy Lighthouse is affectionately known as the “international eye of the sea.”
The light is solar-powered and automatically turns on from around 5:45 PM to 6:00 AM, depending on the season. Since beginning operation in 1997, it has become not only a maritime safety beacon but also a symbol of Phu Quy Island and an important marker affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea.
Climbing Mount Cam – A Journey to the Island’s Most Beautiful Viewpoint
To reach the summit, visitors must conquer 120 stone steps stretching about 200 meters along the mountainside. The path offers a thrilling ascent with rock formations shaped by years of wind and storms, resembling natural sculptures.

From the top, the panoramic view of the ocean, sky, cliffs, and lush landscape of Phu Quy Island unfolds like a breathtaking watercolor painting—serene, majestic, and unforgettable.
Beyond its navigational role, the area around Mount Cam captivates visitors with its wild beauty, fresh air, and ancient trees providing year-round shade. The peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal place for contemplation and nature exploration.
Linh Buu Pagoda – A Tranquil Pagoda Embracing the Sea
At the foot of Mount Cam lies Linh Buu Pagoda, built in 1972. Its main hall faces the vast sea, creating a poetic, harmonious setting where nature meets spiritual architecture.
The pagoda complex features beautifully crafted Buddhist structures built in durable materials, arranged across a spacious and serene courtyard ideal for meditation and worship.
The main sanctuary has a distinctive two-tiered roof shaped like a lotus pedestal, with sculpted reliefs depicting Buddhist legends, lotus motifs, and intricate floral patterns.

Visitors enter through three main doors, flanked by reliefs of the Good Guardian and the Evil Guardian (Ông Thiện – Ông Ác). Inside, the tranquil space is adorned with:
- A central statue of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) on a lotus throne
- Statues of Buddha riding a white elephant and a lion
- Scenes of Buddhist practice and symbolism
- A “double dragon flanking the swastika” motif at the back altar
Linh Buu Pagoda hosts major annual festivals such as Vesak (April 15th lunar), Vu Lan (July 15th lunar), and the October Full Moon Festival, attracting monks, locals, and visitors seeking blessings for peace and prosperity.
