Setting foot on Thới Lới Peak — the “roof of Lý Sơn Island” in Quảng Ngãi — every visitor feels their heartbeat rise with pride. Amid the vast sky and endless ocean, the sight of the red flag with a golden star flying proudly atop the towering flagpole is more than an architectural structure; it is a sacred symbol of Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.
A Solid Landmark Standing Like a “Lighthouse on Land”
The Flag Tower impresses with its strong, modern design, standing 20 meters tall.
Its pedestal rises 5 meters, while the white pillar features a striking red band inspired by the national flag. The foundation is anchored deep into layers of volcanic rock using structural techniques similar to those of real lighthouses, allowing the tower to withstand fierce ocean winds.
A notable highlight of the complex is the set of four flame-shaped reliefs surrounding the courtyard. Their design is inspired by the emblem of the Vietnam Students’ Association, representing youth, vitality, and dedication.

A Sovereignty Marker Facing the Hoàng Sa Archipelago
The front of the flag tower points directly toward the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) Islands.
This orientation serves as a powerful statement of Vietnam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands. It also reflects the solidarity and heartfelt devotion of Vietnamese youth toward the sacred maritime territories of the nation.
Quảng Ngãi Province has long envisioned Lý Sơn as a “living museum,” preserving historical evidence and cultural heritage affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over both the Hoàng Sa and Trường Sa archipelagos.
An Experience Not to Be Missed
Standing beneath the flag tower, visitors are enveloped in an overwhelming sense of freedom. Below lies the deep-blue sea embracing the frontline island; above, the national flag unfurls proudly against the wind.

The Flag Tower on Thới Lới Peak is more than a scenic viewpoint — it is a spiritual landmark, awakening patriotism and inspiring the younger generation to cherish and protect the country’s territorial integrity.
