Tree Planting & Turtle Release – A Meaningful Environmental Initiative in Con Dao

At the Con Dao Special Administrative Zone, a major environmental conservation program was recently held with the participation of the Department of Agriculture & Environment, local authorities, businesses, residents, and a large number of visitors. More than a public-awareness event, the program offered hands-on activities that highlight Con Dao’s role as one of Vietnam’s most important ecological destinations.

One of the program’s highlights was the tree-planting campaign and the release of baby sea turtles back into the ocean at Bay Canh Island—known as the “sea turtle nesting paradise” of Vietnam. These simple yet impactful actions deeply impressed both locals and tourists, inspiring a shared commitment to safeguarding the island’s fragile marine ecosystem.

According to representatives from the Department of Natural Resources & Environment, Con Dao is home to three key ecosystems: forest, wetlands, and marine habitats, and is also a land rich in cultural and historical significance. With tourism development rising rapidly, pressure on the natural environment—especially within Con Dao National Park—has increased, threatening many rare species of flora and fauna. For this reason, raising community awareness and promoting sustainable living practices are more essential than ever.

During the event, environmental leaders encouraged residents and visitors to adopt practical, eco-friendly habits such as:

  • Sorting waste at the source
  • Using environmentally friendly materials
  • Reducing single-use plastics
  • Protecting water resources
  • Choosing recycled products
  • Using renewable energy
  • Avoiding the trade, capture, or consumption of wildlife
  • Planting more trees and spreading a sustainable lifestyle

Another activity that received strong attention was the award ceremony for the environmental art contest for students. The contest offered a meaningful playground where children can creatively express their love for nature and build environmental awareness from an early age.

These purposeful initiatives not only help preserve the pristine beauty of Con Dao but also spread a powerful message: protecting the environment is a shared responsibility, and every small action today contributes to a greener, more sustainable future.
