Hon Mau Island, Nam Du – A Pristine Gem in the Nam Du Archipelago

Hon Mau is one of the most beautiful and peaceful islands in the Nam Du Archipelago, located in the Kien Hai Special Administrative Zone, An Giang Province. Covering an area of around 200 hectares, the island is home to more than 120 households, mostly living on the low-lying coastal land that forms a compact fishing village rich in island character.

Among the 21 islands of Nam Du, Hon Mau is widely regarded as the island with the most beautiful beaches, and it ranks third in population density across the archipelago. Local residents primarily make their living from the sea, especially through fishing and blue crab netting—a familiar sight under the eaves of seaside homes.

Simple Life in Hon Mau’s Fishing Village

Thanks to its modest size, visitors can immediately sense the warmth and closeness of the local community upon arriving on Hon Mau. From elders to children, locals easily recognize newcomers and are often eager to greet them, striking up conversations as if with long-lost friends.

One of the most iconic scenes on Hon Mau is fishermen sitting in front of their homes, patiently untangling blue crab nets. Along with crabs, the nets often catch pieces of coral, turban snails, and giant clams, all carefully removed in preparation for the next fishing trip.

The Most Beautiful Beaches on Hon Mau

Hon Mau is home to five beaches, named after prevailing winds and natural features:

  • Bai Chuong
  • Bai Nam
  • Bai Bac (also known as Black Rock Beach)
  • Bai Da Trang (White Rock Beach)
  • Bai Nom

Among them, Bai Chuong is considered the most beautiful beach on the island. Stretching over one kilometer, it features soft white sand and jade-clear water where the seabed remains visible even dozens of meters offshore. Coconut palms sway along the shore, dotted with simple thatched huts selling fresh coconuts and hammocks where visitors can rest.

Bai Bac (Black Rock Beach) impresses with its many smooth black rocks, polished by waves and shimmering under the sun. Though smaller in size and tucked behind the residential area, it is a favorite check-in spot for photographers.

Bai Nam, located near the pier, is regarded as the island’s “front door.” With calm seas year-round, it serves as the main residential, docking, and trading area of Hon Mau.

Bai Nom offers a gentle, tranquil beauty, where rows of coconut trees reflect on clear water—ideal for travelers seeking peace and relaxation.
