Trieu Hai Waterfall

Lam Dong Province

Hidden among the forests and rolling hills of southern Lam Dong Province, Trieu Hai Waterfall is a peaceful natural retreat where the landscape remains largely untouched.

Also known as Dakala Waterfall, Da Bin Waterfall or Da K’La Waterfall, Trieu Hai is particularly appealing to travelers who enjoy trekking, camping and exploring places far from busy tourist centers.

Surrounded by dense forest and rugged hills, the waterfall offers a refreshing glimpse of the wild and tranquil character of Vietnam’s Central Highlands.

Where is Trieu Hai Waterfall?

Trieu Hai Waterfall is located in Da Teh 2 Commune, Lam Dong Province.

From the Da Teh area, travelers follow local roads toward Trieu Hai for approximately 7–8 km. The route passes through rural landscapes, agricultural areas and forested terrain. The final section includes dirt roads and a walking trail leading toward the waterfall.

From Ho Chi Minh City, the journey generally follows National Highway 20 toward Madagui before continuing toward Da Teh.

From Da Lat, the waterfall is approximately 160 km away, making it better suited to a longer road trip through southern Lam Dong rather than a short day trip from the city.

A Seven-Tier Waterfall in the Forest

Trieu Hai Waterfall drops approximately 70 meters from its upper cliffs. The water descends through a series of natural rock formations, creating around six to seven smaller tiers along the cascade.

Dense vegetation surrounds the upper section of the waterfall. According to local residents, forest cover and natural water sources in the upstream area help maintain the flow throughout much of the year.

From a distance, the white stream of water stands out against the deep green forest, creating a striking landscape characteristic of southern Lam Dong.

The Many Names of the Waterfall

The name Trieu Hai Waterfall comes from the local place name where the waterfall is located.

The waterfall is also known by several other names, including Dakala, Da Bin and Da K’La, reflecting the linguistic and cultural diversity of the region.

In several indigenous languages of the Central Highlands, the word “Da” is associated with water, streams or natural waterways. These names reflect the close relationship between the landscape and the communities who have lived in the region for generations.

A Landscape of Untouched Beauty

The greatest attraction of Trieu Hai is its sense of wildness and tranquility.

The waterfall is surrounded by dense vegetation, rolling hills and large natural rocks. Around the lower section, streams flow between rocky areas and relatively open patches of land beneath the forest canopy.

There are no large-scale tourist facilities dominating the landscape. Instead, visitors encounter the sounds of falling water, birdsong and wind moving through the trees.

On sunny days, sunlight filters through the canopy and reflects across the clear stream, creating a cool and refreshing atmosphere.

A Destination for Nature Lovers

With its relatively undeveloped surroundings, Trieu Hai Waterfall is well suited to travelers looking for outdoor experiences such as:

  • Trekking and forest exploration
  • Camping
  • Stream bathing in safe areas
  • Fishing
  • Riverside picnics
  • Landscape photography

Because the waterfall is located away from major residential areas, visitors should prepare carefully before setting out. Food, drinking water, insect repellent, camping equipment and other essential supplies may be difficult to obtain once on the trail.

Visitors should also avoid entering the lower waterfall area during heavy rain or whenever the water level begins to rise rapidly.

When to Visit Trieu Hai Waterfall

The dry season is generally the most convenient period for exploring Trieu Hai. Weather conditions are usually more favorable, dirt roads are easier to navigate and the streams can appear particularly clear.

However, weather conditions in mountainous areas can change quickly. During periods of heavy rain, dirt roads may become muddy and slippery, while water levels upstream can rise unexpectedly.

Anyone planning a camping or trekking trip should check the weather forecast in advance and preferably travel in a group, particularly when exploring less-developed trails.

Getting to Trieu Hai Waterfall

From Ho Chi Minh City, travelers can take National Highway 20 toward Madagui, then continue toward Da Teh.

From the Da Teh area, the journey continues toward Da Teh 2 Commune. The final approach to the waterfall may involve dirt roads and forest trails.

After reaching an appropriate stopping point, visitors continue on foot along the trail toward the waterfall.

The journey itself is part of the experience. As the road moves farther away from residential areas, the landscape gradually becomes quieter and more dominated by forests, hills and streams.

Nearby Places to Explore

Travelers with additional time can combine Trieu Hai Waterfall with other natural attractions in the Da Teh area.

Xuan Thuy Waterfall, also known as Day Waterfall, is another waterfall in the surrounding region, characterized by its multi-level cascade.

Da Teh Lake offers a different landscape, with broad stretches of water surrounded by forests and hills. It is a pleasant addition to a journey focused on nature and the rural landscapes of southern Lam Dong.

Trieu Hai – A Quiet Corner of Southern Lam Dong

Trieu Hai does not rely on large tourist facilities or busy entertainment areas to attract visitors. Its appeal lies precisely in what remains untouched.

The sound of water falling through the forest, moss-covered rocks, clear streams and layers of green vegetation create an atmosphere far removed from the noise of urban life.

For travelers who enjoy discovering lesser-known natural destinations, Trieu Hai Waterfall is a rewarding stop in southern Lam Dong, offering an authentic encounter with the quiet, rugged beauty of Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
