Wind Power – The Giant Turbines Supplying Electricity to Phú Quý

When visiting Phú Quý Island, travelers will easily spot three wind power towers built across the two communes of Long Hải and Ngũ Phụng. Each wind turbine tower stands 60 meters tall, with blades measuring 37 meters in length. When rotating, the turbine reaches a diameter of 75 meters, majestically catching the island’s strong sea winds.

These three wind turbines are part of the Phú Quý Wind Power Plant, the first hybrid power model on the island to operate by combining wind energy and diesel power.

Previously, electricity on Phú Quý Island was supplied mainly by a diesel power plant operated by Bình Thuận Power Company, with a total capacity of 3,000 kWh. Power was available for only 16 hours per day (from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.), with an annual output of approximately 8.2 million kWh.

The investment in and operation of the wind power plant has significantly contributed to alleviating electricity shortages for daily life and production activities of nearly 30,000 island residents. It also supports the island’s local economic development strategy, while strengthening security and safeguarding national territorial integrity.

Beyond their practical role, the wind turbines have become an iconic check-in spot, wildly popular among young travelers in recent years. Thousands of “million-like” photos circulating on social media have been captured right here.

For photography lovers and social media enthusiasts, this is a must-visit photo hotspot whenever setting foot on Phú Quý. If you’re already on the island, don’t miss this super-hot check-in location—you might just come away with a viral photo that makes everyone else jealous.
